BCN Workshop - IED
BCN Concerie and IED Milano – Leather Material Technology
One of the most important materials for Made in Italy? Real leather.
The many possibilities of modeling the appearance and color, the durability and mechanical characteristics of leather represent the main values of a material that is born from the very concept of upcycling.
BCN Concerie, starting from the research and study vocation of the president of BCN Concerie, Dr. Roberto Lupi, is proud of the opportunity to speak in an important higher education institute in the design panorama such as IED Milan.
The director at BCN Concerie, Iari Sani, gave a lesson on the material calfskin and baby calfskin for the second year in a row.
A dynamic and interactive lesson, in which the students who will specialize in accessories design were able to directly experience the differences between the various types of finished leather that BCN has made available.
Director Sani and Materials Technology teacher Eleonora Berghella used various types of shoes and bags to show the particularities of different types of items: it’s essential for future designers to predict the real outcome of a project.
BCN often welcomes students to the company, to whom it provides the leather so that they can directly experience the material. Training also involves direct experience, especially with regard to accessories that must pass compliance tests for high-level performance.
The future of fashion is also linked to the training of future professionals: the importance of leather as a symbol of the recovery and valorization of natural materials has to be transmitted to the new generations to obtain ever greater results in terms of sustainable innovation.
